From my You are Worthy drawing series inspired by medieval illuminated manuscripts, two chinchillas battle over a carnival squash. Don't let their dewy eyes fool you, they are angry brutes! As they joust it out the ladies of the court watch from below, sporting their fine ermines and waving roses at their favorite knights. Perhaps one horse is dressed in blue and one in red because I drew this during the presidential election. However, the blue crest belongs to Milan and the red one to Florence.
This piece measures 15 by 15 inches. The central image is colored pencil on marbled paper, and the border is colored pencil on tinted pastel paper. This particular piece is also illuminated with gold metallic ink. The central image has been lightly glued within the border. You can read more about this piece in the blog post I wrote here.
About the You are Worthy series: Each of these eight colored pencil drawings is inspired by medieval manuscript illumination and the struggle of medieval people. I tried to depict many different aspects of medieval life and society, including kingship, peasant revolts, famines, jousting, courtly love, monastic life, artistic life, and the plight of women. Gourds have long been vegetables associated with abundance, and rodents are generally seen as lowly creatures. In combining these two elements I aim to show that no matter how lowly one is they deserve abundance. Medieval life in particular was extremely harsh, even for kings, and few people living then thought they deserved much of anything. The gap between the haves and the have nots was extremely wide, making true abundance out of reach for most. I see the same thing happening again in my own country today. That's why I felt putting out this message was important. We are all worthy of abundance. He is worthy, she is worthy, they are worthy, you are worthy.
Of course abundance isn't just money. Don't treat yourself like a mouse. You also deserve love, health, friendship, and happiness.
